Below are links to articles that have appeared in the Clayton News Daily regarding the dilemma and draining of Lake Tara. Hopefully, these articles will help all who read them understand the situation much better. Look for new articles to appear here as they are printed.

Clayton County examines drained lake

Lake Draining causes Quagmire

Lake Tara remains drained

Factoids:

* The lake was originally 26.5 acres, since it has been drained there are about 4 acres of water left.
* The neighborhood was originally built in 1944 as a summer nature retreat primarily for the well-to-do citizens of Atlanta.
* There are approximately 165 homes in the Lake Tara subdivision.
* The lake was drained by Michael Adamson, owner of Forrest Homes in Alpharetta, Georgia. The draining took place in late July of 2004, when Mr. Adamson had the dam breached.
* As of December 30, 2006, the legal costs to fight for the preservation of lake and its wildlife, some of which is endangered has surmounted to $42,300.
* The citizens of Lake Tara have raised $25,100 towards the above mentioned legal costs.

* Lake Tara Nature Habitat recently received a $1,000 grant from United Way.

URGENT:

Over the past couple of months an entity trying to rid the lake of all of its life and beauty has dumped trash into and around the lake.  Everyone in the community please keep your eyes open.  This dumping usually takes place in the early hours of the morning when most of the residents are asleep.  If this entity can be caught they will face serious fines and/or imprisonment.  Let's catch this entity and put an end to this stupid and irresponsible behaviour.

Interested in helping in some way?  We would love to talk with you.  Simply fill in the email form below and a Lake Tara Habitat officer will contact you to discuss how you can help.  THANKS FOR YOUR INTEREST.
